After much consideration for the past 2 days, my mother and I have decided to add in some dark pink accents to the wedding... Now, I realize that pink isn't a color that people would usually associate with me, but after thinking about it long and hard, its about the only color that really catches my attention (that I like) and keeps that very modern feel to everything... with adding a touch of preppy elegance. What made me think so hard about changing my otherwise monochromatic ivory and navy blue colors? This photo from the Knot was all it took:
Isn't that just gorgeous?! Chris isn't in full agreement to it, but he can tolerate it so long as it's only an accent color, and I don't try to attack him or the boys with anything pink in their outfits. We've bickered all day about whether or not the boys should wear a navy & pink striped tie, and at some point I realized I might as well hang my head and call it a day- this is one argument that I am NOT going to win (even though I KNOW it would look great). My mother thinks the girls should wear pink shoes and pink fascinators but I haven't decided yet. I think it might look a bit lopsided if the boys aren't wearing any pink. I really want to stick to just having all the flowers a deep pink shade, and then keep everything else ivory & navy.
the bridesmaids bouquets & my bouquet- except mine will be only roses, no tulips
Unfortunately, incorporating any kind of pink into the ceremony, means that I have to forfeit the sash I had been planning on wearing- my family's clan tartan. It's just too much of a clash with the pink. Red, we could do, green, or yellow even but pink just isn't going to work. So I'll be wearing a navy sash instead. I still have hints of tartan around however- my garter and horseshoe both have tartan on them, and we're throwing around the idea of doing a handfasting which I'll have done with tartan ribbon if we do it. So it's not a total loss. I was taunting my mother earlier with the thought of wearing pink shoes under my dress- I think she's figured out that arguing with me about wearing colored shoes is a lost cause since she just laughed at me. I'm totally loving these shoes from Aldo (which are on sale for a mere $59.98!) but I'm not sure if they'd work for me seeing as I may wind up looking taller than Chris in them, and if I'm really lucky, I'll get my heel stuck in the gaps of the deck!
Lastly, It's almost just as well that I decided to incorporate pink. When I called my mother this afternoon to let her know my decision she had some news of her own- she's bought a pale pink gown that she may wear for the wedding if she doesn't find something else she likes more. She'll look absolutely lovely in whatever she chooses, but with her dark hair, porcelain complexion & sapphire blue eyes, she'd look gorgeous in pink! This should also make my future mother in law quite happy as well, since she's been threatening [in jest] to wear a hot pink outfit... well, now she can!
