I've spent the past few days putting together ideas and sorting out exactly what I want seeing as we changed the color. I've decided on most of my accessories, as well as my reception dress and the dress for my bachelorette/hen party.
Since I was a child, I've had a fascination with how elegant Princess Diana was. I practically idolized her when I was young and I cried for days when I found out she'd died. I always thought she had amazing taste in fashion, and just proved how timeless pearls can be. Last night, I went on a search to find a replica of of the incredible 7 strand pearl choker with a sapphire & diamond clasp that she wore to a banquet at the White House in the late '80s. She wore it several times after that and it has an extensive history. It was originally given to the Empress Marie Feodorovna, Queen Alexandra's younger sister. Following the empress's death in 1928 the necklace was sold to Queen Mary in 1931 by Hennell & Son and the Queen inherited it in 1953. I finally found a costume jewelry replica selling for $50 including matching earrings from Lisa Hsieh that my mum's getting me for my birthday!! I can't wait to see it in person- I think it'll go beautifully with my gown as the choker style will draw the eye up from the strapless neckline of the dress. I'm also wearing my mum's sapphire & diamond earrings that are the same style as my engagement ring & similar to the center of the necklace- they'll be my something borrowed.
I've also found the most perfect shoes- They're knockoffs of the infamous Christian Louboutin Pink "Joli" shoes that graced the cover of Brides Magazine last year. I've always loved Louboutin's but they're well out of my price range. However, I stumbled across the site iOffer.com that is filled with super cheap knockoff designer pieces- everything from dog collars to shoes, handbags & jewelry. Most of the sellers are from Asia and the site doesn't have the best reviews online when you do a search for it, but after asking around on some of the wedding forums I frequent, I'm pretty confident that they'll at least be half decent if I order from a seller with a 98% positive rating and many sales to their name. Most of the girls said that the items are close enough fakes that it would take a hawk eye to tell the difference. Watch out though- like ebay, often times the marketed price is extremely low, but the shipping rates can be almost double the asking price! So while the shoes I'm eyeing up are listed as $35, the shipping on them is $50. I don't think Louboutin ever actually produced these shoes in blue, but damn they're pretty! And what's better.. I don't really care if they aren't originals, or if he ever produced them in this color because for me, they're perfect.
And now onto the dresses... I'm almost certain I've found my reception dress. Now I just need to find somewhere around here that has it in stock for me to try on & order it from. I originally spied the dress on one of today's blogs on Elizabeth Anne Designs and hopped over to the Dessy Group website to check if they had it in my colors. Sure enough, they did and I'm head over heels for it!! I can't wait to see it in person and it'll go wonderfully with the shoes & jewelry i've picked.
Even though I don't have a clue when, where or even the smallest details about my bachelorette party yet, I've decided to keep an eye out for any dresses that I would like to wear. I've asked the girls to organize a sophisticated night out on the town- we can do all the inflatable penis', the plastic tiara & veil and the "bachelorette" sash during the pregaming before we hit downtown, but I do NOT want to flaunt that it's my bachelorette. I want a nice dinner at the very trendy Restraurant in downtown- The Mint before hopping over to a few of the nice bars & lounges in the area such as Solas, Sullivan's, Blue Martini, and Amra's. I love vintage fashion, but I find it hard to find a lot of dresses that would either be flattering on me, or aren't all exactly the same style. I stumbled across this beauty at Pinup Girl Clothing and I can't imagine a dress anymore suited for me! It's only $98 and I hope that my gorgeous wedding shoes will match the navy color of the dress. If not, I have a pair of white peeptoe heels that would work well too, but seriously... how freakin' cute is this dress?!
